This of course is completely unsustainable and as a consquence of this over reaching consumer culture, our cities all of a sudden started to show a few blemishes on the glossy marketing images that are plastered all over our streets, and the partial dimming of bright lights illuminating big box stores along with their huge parking lots, leaving big areas of our cities empty and devoid of community life. These are a series of photographs that try to capture this emptiness and perhaps the possible beauty of the blank canvas along with a hope of renewal. USA 2009 -- In 2009, on a short 3 day visit to Houston, I decided to drive out to Galveston almost a year after hurricane Ike hit. The name conjured up in my mind both images of a historic town on the Gulf and of disaster. I must say I was blown away by the beauty of its historic buildings and by the sense of fragility that one gets when visiting a small barrier island. The mix of grand Victorian homes, boarded up shops, beach littered with debris, and 19th-century buildings all over town give a sense of a faded glory that makes it such a special place. España 2011 -- Design Proposal in collaboration with JAPA Architects -- Re-activation of castle in town centre of Buñol. Re- connecting its inhabitants with their history and giving new life to forgotten space. The forgotten spaces and missing fragments of the castle gave us delicate and subtle canvas on which to develop the intervention.
